“Disasters are rife at every hand ” is an old saying. But it seems unequivocal to follow such sayings in this post modern era when the world is laden with the latest technology and sophisticated machinery.
It is very sad to hear that 7 people have lost their lives in yesterday’s accident at Zojila pass. Zojila tunnel has been under construction for the last few years, but when it is operational it is still not clear.
So, till then , it is an optimal duty of both J&K and Ladakh administration to manage the traffic on the said road in such a way that further loss of life is avoided.
Personally I have seen that there is a huge snow accumulation at the same place and usually it melts with the increase in temperature. So, I think , it would be better to stop the traffic during such hours.
Further, the transporter community must follow the traffic advisory issued from time to time. And must not put the life of passengers at risk for their own benefits. Most of the transporters book passengers and then rahe then to Sonamarg or Drass and stay there hence putting the passengers in a tragic situation.
When the road is not open these vehicles must not be allowed to cross Kangan Ganderbal or Kargil main. It has been observed that in such a situation the hotel and restaurant owners loot the people. Demand in 1000s for night stay which is not possible for a layman like me who does labour work or a low rates job.
My humble request to Ladakh and JK govt would be like that they must arrange some additional flights for the winter season and the charges should be made flexible that everyone can afford .
Human behaviour always tends to bend towards flexible choices rather than rigid ones. So, this is the need of the day to arrange choppers for the general public that has a low cast factor implications which govt can bear with.
